Sidney is at present a firefighter for the Contra Costa County Fire District
and she often fills in as an active firefighting engineer.

Sidney began her career as a firefighter fighting the dangerous
CDF (California Department of Forestry) wild fires.
In late 2003, Sidney was on a special strike team
fighting the big wild fire in San Diego.

The San Diego area was affected by devastating wildfires in the fall of 2003.
An estimated 400,000 acres burned in San Diego county in October and November,
along with 2,400 homes.  The Cedar fire started in the afternoon of 10/25/2003.
On 10/26/2003 and 10/27/2003, the aerosol layer above the instrument was so dense
that it was possible to look into the Sun with the naked eye.
